Maria Mitchell was the first female professional astronomer in the United States; she became instantly famous in October 1847 when she discovered and charted the orbit of a new comet, which became known as “Miss Mitchell’s Comet.” Join us as poet Cynthia Kirby Reilley recites a narrative about Mitchell, followed by an astronomically inspired art activity.
