DESCRIPTION:The South San Antonio Chamber of Commerce will be honoring five heroes of the south at their annual Legends Gala on October 23\, 2014.  The event honors the contributions and commitments of individuals and organizations that have facilitated growth\, community and general betterment of the South Side.\n\n\n\nServing as the Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be WOAI's Randy Beamer.\n\n\n\nThe 2014 Legends Gala honorees include State Representative Joe Farias\, Palo Alto College\, Rosie Castro\, County Commissioner Tommy Adkisson and Dr. Pedro De Leon.\n\n\n\nJoe Farias is an Army Veteran\, and has served San Antonio in numerous capacities over the past 37 years\, including his current position of Texas State Representative for District 118.\n\n\n\nPalo Alto College opened in 1985 and has since continued to bring higher education to the southern sector of Bexar County and the surrounding region.\n\n\n\nRosie Castro\, mother of Julian and Joaquin Castro\, rooted in Edgewood sought civil rights and equality for Hispanics in San Antonio and has since been a persistent advocate for educational opportunities in the areas of need. \n\n\n\nTommy Adkisson has been serving the people of Bexar County for more than 40 years with his involvement in various community initiatives and organizations and currently serves as Bexar County Commissioner for Precinct Four since 1998.\n\n\n\nDr. Pedro De Leon is a Family Practitioner who has been providing medical care to the south side for over 55 years.\n\n\n\nThe event will be held at the Whitley Center located at 285 Oblate Drive\, San Antonio\, TX\, 78216 from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.\n\n\n\nThe South San Antonio Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1982\, and is a 501(c)6 non-profit organization.
